BUYING DIAMONDS WITH CONFIDENCE

More sparkle doesn’t always mean better quality. We find that most people know little about the characteristics of diamonds or how to make an educated purchase of these beloved stones. At J.H. Young, our experienced gemologists know all of the precise standards for evaluating diamond cut, colour, clarity and carat weight.  We make understanding (and seeing!) diamond quality easy for you and your loved ones.

J.H. Young is Diamond Quality® certified; the first and only certification to guarantee authenticity and provide accountability for a diamond’s grade. Our gemologists are fully dedicated to setting, maintaining, and promoting the highest standards of ethical conduct and professional behaviour within the jewelry industry and our community.

THE 4C’S OF DIAMONDS?

Cut, colour, clarity and carat. Our team can help you better understand what gives a diamond its beauty and quality.

Cut has the greatest effect on a diamond’s beauty. The more precise the cut, the more captivating the diamond is to the eye.

Colourless diamonds are the rarest. Other natural colours are known as “fancy,” and their colour grading is different than that of white colourless diamonds.

Clarity. Diamonds without inclusions or blemishes are rare; however, most characteristics can only be seen with magnification.

Carat is the diamond’s physical weight measured in metric carats. One carat equals 1/5 gram and is subdivided into 100 points.

A HISTORY OF LOVE, CHARM AND ELEGANCE

For centuries, pearls have been a symbol of beauty and purity. Today, they are regarded as both classic and contemporary, coming in many fashionable styles.

Pearls, natural or cultured, are formed when a mollusk produces layers of nacre around some type of irritant inside its shell.

Natural pearls are extremely rare.

Cultured pearls are grown in pearl farms.

Saltwater pearls include the akoya cultured pearls grown in Japanese and Chinese waters.

Freshwater pearls these pearls are grown in freshwater lakes, rivers, and ponds predominately in China.

A KALEIDOSCOPE OF BEAUTIFUL GEMS

A birthstone is associated with each month of the year and they come in magnificent colours and cuts that beautifully reflect your loved ones personality and style.
