A History of Constant Innovation
If time never stops, why should they? Citizen Watch Company is known for its breakthrough innovations and their technology in watchmaking. Their product development policy, “The Fusion of Technology and Beauty” remains a constant motivation for them to merge cutting-edge technology with perfection of design which inspires people to strive to be their best at any time.
Their story begins in 1918 when a Tokyo jeweller, Kamekichi Yakamazi, founded the Shokosha Watch Research Institute and began producing pocket watches. Their very first commercial model, the calibre 16 pocket watch, was sold in 1924 under the brand name Citizen. Sadly, the progress of Citizen watches was put on hold due to World War II, which devastated Japan and its watch industry. Soon after the war, a new era began for Citizen watches when watches overseas were being marketed all around the world in the name of Citizen Watch Company.
